Biokovo Mountain is a dramatic limestone mountain range rising steeply above the Makarska Riviera on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. It is part of the protected Biokovo Nature Park, one of the most impressive natural landscapes in the country, known for its raw beauty, extreme relief, and breathtaking sea views. The highest peak of Biokovo is Sv. Jure (1,762 m), which is also the highest peak on the entire Adriatic coast. From its slopes to the sea, Biokovo offers a unique contrast between rugged alpine terrain and the turquoise Adriatic Sea below. One of the most popular hiking destinations is Vošac (1,421 m), a spectacular viewpoint above Makarska offering panoramic views of the islands of Brač, Hvar, Korčula, and the Pelješac peninsula. It is a favorite hiking goal for both locals and visitors. Biokovo is also home to the famous Skywalk Biokovo, a glass platform built on a cliff edge that provides a thrilling experience of walking above the sea and clouds. This attraction has become one of the most iconic viewpoints in Croatia. The mountain is rich in biodiversity, with numerous endemic plant species, wildlife, and unique karst formations. Its landscapes include rocky peaks, deep sinkholes, ancient beech and pine forests, and historic mountain routes such as the Napoleon Road, which connects different parts of the mountain. Above towns like Makarska and Brela, Biokovo hides many untouched areas, including forest trails, dramatic cliffs, and hidden viewpoints that are best explored with a local guide. Today, Biokovo is one of Croatia’s top outdoor destinations for hiking, trekking, climbing, and nature experiences, attracting adventurers from all over the world. Exploring Biokovo with a professional local guide ensures not only safety, but also deeper insight into the mountain’s history, geology, flora, and hidden stories
